A short but justified list of video game systems we will either no longer care at all about due to their pointlessness or will simply not be able to play any more due to their poor craftsmanship and inevitable death.
1. Xbox
This console was, by far, my all time favorite for multiple reasons. However, mine died, and the console was actually recalled in 2008 for faulty wiring around the power area. This was the new dog and Microsoft's flagship product in the gaming industry, and while the console itself was great, the game library was a little small. Almost all the Xbox games I played were ported to PC soon after. Even the so-called exclusives labeled "Only on XBOX" had their PC alternatives.
While I will forever remember the original Xbox for introducing me to Halo and even getting me involved with The Elder Scrolls games, I know my true love was Xbox Media Center and all the homebrew applications. While the original Xbox still has a use today as a great media center that can play decent video games as well, such applications have become outdated and ridden with performance issues. Let's not go into the work involved in hacking the hardware and bypassing the security measures.
2. Nintendo (NES)
I can emulate all my NES games perfectly on my PC, so the system really isn't needed for anything. Plus, the emulators are actually more fun and more convenient than the original system. At least, you don't have to blow on cartridges all day.
2.b Genesis (SEGA)
Sega was awesome back in the day, but their old, 2d systems are all emulated fairly easily now, and the Dreamcast games, for the record, are also emulated fairly well.
3. PlayStation
Again, emulators have made the original system a little pointless, but some people will argue that PS1 emulators are hard to set up. It all depends on the emulator, really. Besides, PS2 can play PS1 games.
PS1 was a great system, possibly the greatest system of its time. It was one of the first few systems designed for CDs instead of cartridges, and it had the most massive library of games I ever witnessed. Unfortunately, emulation became its true successor.
4. Dreamcast
The Dreamcast is totally obsolete. All the good games were ported to either PC or Xbox or both. The original Dreamcast games can also be emulated fairly well on a modern computer.

Haha, like the 2001 reference. That's pretty funny.
Seems like everything got emulated. I understand the need, but am I the only one who likes the look and feel of an old gaming system? I suppose computers are becoming the hubs of just about everything.
I enjoyed the old controllers and the terrible graphics. And yes, blowing on the cartridges was all a part of the ritual.
